About

Andrea Gibson formed Gibson Design Group in 2000 in Seattle, WA and moved the firm’s headquarters to Charlottesville, VA in 2003. She was previously the principal designer and owner of Architectural Interiors, Inc., a Washington, DC and Seattle, WA based firm, from 1972-1999. During her 30+ years as a principal designer, Andrea has designed residential and commercial spaces across the United States, in Canada, and in the Middle East. From 1975-1977, Andrea also served as the Director of Design for HLM Architects in Iowa City, IA—an architectural firm with over 300 employees specializing in hospital design. Through her many years of experience and her education, Andrea brings a strong working knowledge of construction, blueprints, electrical planning/layout, furniture, and antiques. She now specializes in new construction, renovations, and remodeling. Andrea is a professional member of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers, a member of NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association), and is NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) certified. She served as president of ASID for Washington state in 2001-2002 and served on the board from 1999-2002. Andrea served as finance director for the state of Virginia ASID chapter in 2006-7. . Andrea holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the University of Maryland and a minor in textiles and urban sociology. She has completed graduate studies, also at the University of Maryland, in landscape architecture.

Gibson Design Group works on projects ranging from Residential to Commercial to New Construction. Gibson Design Group works closely with builders and homeowners on spec and custom homes. Typically, we are involved in the building process from the ground up. We provide architectural edits, interior drawings, and space plans, as well as working with the homeowner on specifications and selections. Gibson Design Group approaches commercial design differently than most firms. When we design for commercial clients, we view the design as marketing as much as it is interior design. During the design process, we not only meet with you and your team about space planning and finishes, but we also work with you to thoroughly understand your target market, your corporate culture, who you are and who you want to appeal to. It is this branding through design that can set you apart from your competitors. Gibson Design Group provides a professional, educated approach to designing or redesigning your residential space. We provide all interior drawings and elevations, create space plans, assist with architectural edits, and provide all finish schedules. Our time on your project does not end with the design, but we work with you throughout the project until completion. Gibson Design Group is educated and experienced in a wide variety of areas from remodeling to Universal Design (Aging In Place) to Green Design.

Fee Structures

Generally, Gibson Design Group charges a flat fee for all projects. This allows our clients to budget appropriately at the beginning of their project and to not have a design fee as a variable. Also, if some aspects of a client’s design take us longer than usual, we do not feel that the client should be penalized by paying for those hours.
