At Savannah Designs Inc, Colleen Kuschke, designer and owner, believes in “designing for your lifestyle”. Comfortable spaces which reflect her client’s personalities are the ultimate goal for every project. The design process should be both enjoyable and collaborative, for client and designer. Colleen’s ability to listen closely to her clients and her attention to detail, result in her success in translating wishes into reality. Born and educated in Johannesburg, South Africa, Colleen’s approach to her work is influenced by her multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary experiences. Her first career, teaching and research in genetics at the University of the Witwatersrand, honed her people skills and eye for detail. A desire for a lifestyle change resulted in a return to studying at the Calder School of Interior Design, South Africa, and a new career, now 15 years in the making. Since opening Savannah Designs Inc, Colleen has worked mainly, but not exclusively, on residential projects. The “savannah” in Savannah Designs is a tribute to the open grasslands of Africa – “my mind’s escape-to place when the pace of work is hectic”. Her previous design business in South Africa encompassed both high end residential and small commercial clients. Colleen is an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers. When still resident in South Africa, she was a member of the South African Guild of Interior Designers.
