Sustainable Design

Green design is design that goes beyond being just efficient, attractive, on time and on budget. It is a design that cares about how such goals are achieved, about its effect on people and on the environment. An environmentally responsible professional makes a commitment to constantly try to find ways to diminish design's impact on the world around us. It is also a smart way of doing business: sustainable design is the fastest growing segment of our industry.  For more about ASID's adoption of sustainable design as a platform issue of the Society, please click here.  To find a designer with sustainable design expertise, please click here and enter words like "green", "sustainable" or "LEED" in the Keyword Search field.

The ASID Foundation and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) have partnered on the development of REGREEN, the nation's first sustainable residential remodeling guidelines. The program is designed for use by residential designers, construction professionals and homeowners alike, and includes best practice guidelines and targeted educational resources for sustainable residential improvement projects.

ASID is excited to be a founding partner of Mission Zero, an online community working to develop real and lasting solutions to the pressing problems facing our planet. ASID firmly believes in the cross-discipline information sharing intended for Mission Zero and looks forward to being an active participant in the exchange of ideas.

ASID is one of the many organizations, cities, counties and states that have committed to the 2030 Challenge, the aggressive campaign to dramatically reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions within the building sector by the year 2030. “As part of an industry that works within the built environment, the 2030 Challenge gives design professionals an opportunity to help transform the building sector from one of the main contributors of greenhouse gas emissions to a key part of the solution,” says Michael Alin, Hon. FASID, ASID Executive Director.
