About
Diane has multiple residential interior design degrees, including degrees in bathroom design, kitchen design, and lighting design. She passed the NCIDQ examination over 10 years ago, which allowed her to become a Professional Member of ASID, and a Certified Designer in the State of California. She also passed the CBD and CKD examinations, and became one of 80 bath-kitchen designers in the United States qualified to be a Certified Master Kitchen-Bath Designer in 2004. Diane was the first West-Coast designer to be featured on the cover of Kitchen Bath Business magazine in 1986. In 2005, three of Diane's projects won national design awards (Contractor of the Year, Chrysalis, and Master Design Gold). Diane's book, "THE Survival Guide: Home Remodeling" won the annual NABE award for best how-to book of 2004, and gets consistently "excellent" reviews from readers. Diane has contributed articles for many magazines and newspapers, including "Coordinator," printed in Japan.
Services Offered
Diane Plesset is an award-winning bath+kitchen designer and author of "THE Survival Guide: Home Remodeling". 25 years of experience, one of very few professionals to be ASID, Certified Master Kitchen-Bath Designer (CMKBD), and CCIDC (California professional registration). Design philosophy is holistic service -- interactive participation with homeowners to help make informed decisions about all of the products and service providers for the most important rooms in every home. D. P. Design provides project spreadsheets to establish and maintain a reasonable budget, and detailed CAD plans+specifications for estimates, permits and construction. D. P. Design offers construction coordination as an advocate for Homeowners, maintaining high standards of communication and attention to details that make every project proceed smoothly and hassle-free.

Fee Structures
The only time D. P. Design charges for an initial consultation is when the meeting requires over an hour of traveling time (one way) from the Portland, Oregon office. The fee structure is based on an hourly rate of $120, rounded to the nearest 1/10th of an hour (6 minutes). Before the initial meeting, Diane's assistant talks with the homeowner to get some preliminary information about the project (age of home, how long they've lived there, what they want to change, their target budget, target completion date, etc.). After the initial consultation with the homeowners at the jobsite, a detailed proposal is submitted, recapping the discussion, describing all of the services provided by D. P. Design, defining the range of investment and how long the project will take. The proposal states the maximum-not-to-exceed fee, and describes the payment structure. When homeowners hire D. P. Design, they pay the retainer requested. Half of the retainer is applied to the first invoice, and half of the retainer is applied to invoices at the end of the project. Invoices are generated by Timeslips, the same program used by lawyers and accountants. D. P. Design does not sell products, eliminating the concern about conflict of financial interest when Diane or her assistant helps homeowners select products for their project.
Design Gallery
Contemporary European Kitchen
Walls were moved to create more and better storage, and to add a "menu-message" center. The attached table mimics a large floor-to-ceiling bay window. Features include: Custom laminate and maple cabinets, granite countertops and backsplash (with yellow marble insert), and limestone floors. The multi-layered lighting is controlled by a Lutron Grafic Eye system. / Contemporary European Kitchen
Master Bath: Spa Retreat
To create a relaxing whirlpool tub+shower room, the toilet was moved to a different part of the bathroom. The Chamesson limestone walls were sculpted to create the feeling of sand dunes in Hawaii, one of the homeowners' favorite places to vacation. / Master Bath: Spa Retreat
Award-Winning Powder Room
This powder room was honored with the regional CotY (Contractor of the Year) award in 2006. / Award-Winning Powder Room
Transitional Kitchen
The homeowners achieved a multiple-cook kitchen. A new "prep" sink was placed between the refrigerator and cooktop. The pull-out faucet also serves as a pot filler, because of its proximity to the cooktop. The kitchen plan included two microwave-convection ovens, and unique storage accessories to make it work FOR the cooks. / Transitional Kitchen
Award-Winning Kitchen
This project won the 2006 Chrysalis Award for Best Kitchen over $100,000. It included a 12'x15' addition, to enlarge the kitchen and create a new eating area, so the family could enjoy entertaining. The unique ceiling was achieved by adding a dormer, which added visual interest to the typical ranch-house roofline. / Award-Winning Kitchen
