Jon Dougal

CEO, Innovative Building Materials International

A principal and founder of Innovative Building Materials International, a bamboo building materials firm in Emeryville, CA, Jon Dougal was the Sustainable Initiatives Manager for Armstrong Industries, responsible for training the company’s employees in LEED/USGBC certification, green building design and construction and introducing “sustainability” as a core value to the corporation. His experience encompasses marketing, new product creation and introduction, distribution & sales (regional & international).

A former building and remediation contractor, Dougal has been involved in sustainable design for 15 years, and views the future of humanity though his granddaughters’ eyes.
 
Dougal’s non-profit activities included consulting for the German American and International Cultural Affairs Institute of San Francisco on environmental marketing; co-Founding the Green Ribbon Panel for the City of San Francisco, and the ensuing Environmental Achievement Awards; contributor to the San Francisco Sustainability Plan; the ISO 14000 West Coast Working Group - a coalition of the top corporations and organizations of the S.F Peninsula; Founder of the S.F. Chamber of Commerce’s Round Table on The Environment, and the Central Valley Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council; Steering Committee for the Environmental Forum of Marin- a 26-week course on Environmental Consciousness; the City of Berkeley and Oakland’s Green Building Initiatives; Founder and Publisher of the BIPER Newsletter [Building Industry Professionals for Environmental Responsibility & www.iGreenBuild.com; Director and Board Member of the Environmental Remediation Foundation and the Hydrogen Partnership, both in New Mexico; Public Relations Manager of the Professional Environmental Marketing Association; and 1st Green Building Materials Showcase Director for ADPSR (Architects Designers, Planners for Social Responsibility).

An environmentalist for over 30 years, Jon was an early experimenter in waste-to-energy tire recycling, subsurface farming, eco-tourism, fish farming, and “greening” of the Board Room. He has been a keynote speaker for many professional organizations, including interviews and call-in shows on NPR and CBS. He currently co-hosts a Radio Program on green, sustainable building products at www.floordaily.net with Dave Foster.
