James Rixner, ASID
James Rixner Inc
New York, New York
Project type:
Residential
E:
jr@jamesrixner.com
About
Rixner received a master’s in urban planning from the University of Pittsburgh, came to New York and worked for Harry Hinson in his interiors group. After working at Bloomingdale’s and for the architectural firm HLW, Rixner went out on his own in 1983. In the over 20 years of operating his own studio, Rixner has designed numerous high-end private residences, corporate headquarters and commercial spaces. James is a four-year alumnus of the prestigious Kips Bay Show House. His work was featured in the Tomes-Higgins Show House in Greenwich, Connecticut, and the Coe Hall Show House in Oyster Bay, Long Island, as well as the Hampton Designer Show House presented by House & Garden. He was also published in three monographs: “East Coast Rooms” by Anna Kasabian, “Show Houses: Signature Design Styles” by Stuchin and Abramson, and “Inspired High End Design” by Shane Reilly. In addition, his projects have been shown in Gotham Magazine, House and Garden, New York Living, New York Spaces, The New York Times Magazine, New York Times House and Home Section as well as in Traditional Home. Mr. Rixner’s work was made into a national advertisement for Stark Carpet, appearing in all major design and architecture publications such as Architectural Digest, Interior Design and Metropolitan Home. Mr. Rixner is an NCIDQ certificate holder and a New York State Certified Interior Designer. Former positions include the interior design divisions of Bloomingdales, HLW Architects and Hinson & Company.
Services Offered
James Rixner designs serene, elegant interiors rendered with top-quality craftsmanship and the finest finishes. The apparent ease in which he creates classic interiors comes from a thorough working knowledge of art, lighting and various architectural and design periods. The results are comfortable and uncluttered living spaces that are the epitome of beauty and purity. Mr. Rixner’s ability to execute various styles is a definite plus; there is no rubber stamp, one look approach. Details are another of the firm’s specialties, Rixner and his staff listen carefully to the client and often take a project management role. With a background in architectural planning, clients are comfortable when Rixner takes the works back to the skeletal bones and reconstitutes the space. Lighting is also one of his fortés. Custom cabinetry, kitchens and baths are often part of the remix. The firm will also take on a few rooms for new clients and is known for its excellent upfront presentations, including elevation drawings, furniture and floor plans and lighting schemes. ASID. KB 1997, 1999, 2003, 2007.
