About
After receiving a BFA in graphic design from Michigan State University and working as Promotion/Marketing Director for Dayton Hudson Properties in Minneapolis, I studied interior design in Boston and became the founding principal of Bonneville Design. Articles on my projects and professional practice have been published in New Home magazine, Your Home magazine, The Boston Globe magazine, Design Times magazine, Window & Wall Ideas magazine, Old-House Interiors magazine, the Boston Business Journal, Fire Protection Engineering magazine, and various online articles and books by other authors. My book, “The Safe Home, Designing for Safety in the Home”, is a guide to help create "safe homes" - homes that are functional, comfortable, efficient, healthy and secure living environments for the whole family. (www.asid.org/content/safe-home-designing-safety-home)
Services Offered
To create lifelong interior environments, I specialize in human-centered design that supports and enhances quality of life for each unique client. For over 30 years I have shared a passion for interior design through collaboration with my clients and vendors and contractors to create not only beautiful and efficient but safe living environments in homes, offices, retail stores and healthcare facilities. My residential focus is to design environments for multi-generational living and aging-at-home. I believe it should never be your house that tells you it is time to leave home - that with careful planning, the right structural and spatial elements can be put in place to support any living situation. Improve your environment to improve your life. Sharing knowledge and experience through volunteerism is also a large part of my life and practice. I have had the honor to serve; as mentor and advisor to many design students in numerous Massachusetts colleges, on local and national boards for ASID its Foundation, the National Fire Protection Association, the Boston Architectural College (BAC), the Manchester, MA Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Advisory Committee, the Advisory Counsel of the Massachusetts Interior Design Coalition (MIDC), and as a Governor on the board of the St. Botolph Club, Boston.
Awards
I am a nationally certified interior designer (NCIDQ since1989), a Fellow of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID 2006), a recipient of an honorary Master of Interior Design from the Boston Architectural College (BAC), recipient of a kitchen design award from Southern Accents magazine, the 2007 Small Business Person of the Year of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce (Mass.), and a 2008 inductee into the New England Design Hall of Fame.
Fee Structures
I provide estimates for Projects when the scope of services can be clearly and concisely defined. This usually begins with the Design Phase, which typically includes space planning, lighting design, furnishings/fixtures/and finishes specification and selection, furniture design, etc., and a schedule of meetings with the client. The Acquisition Phase involves the purchasing of merchandise to complete an approved design and is billed at wholesale plus a purchasing fee that covers the facilitation of the order(s). Purchasing is a convenience service that is available, but is not mandetory, and is invoiced separately If Project Scheduling and Management are required, an hourly fee structure is typical, considering the unpredictability of time involved. Projects of all sizes are considered. A collaborative and transparent relationship with clients is imperative. After 30 years, we continue to serve many long-term loyal clients while welcoming new and diverse projects.
