These cabinets will stay, but appliances will change for better space and energy efficiency.
The microwave will move to a more practical, less protruding location.
The tall pantry cabinet will stay; two 27" cabinets will move to new locations.
The large distressed mirror catches the light as does the metallic gleam of the wallpaper and white fur of the rug. The antique empire sofa is a nod to the era of the farmhouse setting.
The table and wrought iron candle chandelier are the clients' own. The woodwork is painted an off-black, the walls khaki green. The white images are hand cut paper (see wall decoupage on my website) by artist, John Hastings. Elaborate cane chairs add texture. Slipper chair upholstered in a crazy quilt.
Corner of the screening room. Cabinet, poster and model ship clients' own. The blackout curtains on wraparound rods screen out light from windows and doorways.
Breakfast area. Clients' chairs covered in patent leather. Vintage refurbished NY subway clock over mantel.
"Curly Lamp" over main stairway sourced from craft collective in England.
John Robshaw fabric covers this beautiful iron chaise found by the clients in Western Massachusetts.
View from entrance; hand-painted De Gournay panel inside niche, client's chandelier was restored and her Mexican terracotta figure feels a natural complement
The apartment was extremely dark with very little natural light. Bleached floors, semi-gloss cream paint on walls and ceiling and white blinds hiding the unattractive views solved this. Recovered client's own Eames chair and ottoman and provided a custom copy of a midcentury sectional sofa. The arc lamp is from Ikea and the hanging cabinet is a midcentury piece.
Vignette in the living room
All the furniture and pottery was the client's own, the dining chairs were reupholstered and we purchased a new chandelier.
We streamlined the existing kitchen with new lighting, countertop, new appliances, and cleaned up and added on to existing 70's plywood cabinets.
Wooden wall and built in were existing. The blind creates brightness and the panne velvet duvet cover a touch of luxe.

The vintage Vladimir Kagan sofa, seemingly floating on plexi legs, was found on Ebay and recovered in a red cotton. The semi circular piece welcomes one into the room. The sofa is extremely low and deep, allowing the views to be seen and seating inviting and comfortable. The digital photo is taken from a section of a Medieval painting. Red, Black and Gold will be themes throughout.
Dining room-walls covered in metallic gold grasscloth, hand-mirrored dining table, Baroque-patterned gold sheer curtains and Maison Jansen black leather covered chairs add contrast
Maison Jansen mirrored screen hides a former entrance to the kitchen; lacquered and gold-plated Italian drinks trolley
Silver grasscloth in the hallway with gilt pendant lamps. Molding is painted black througout
Light-filled master bedroom reflected onto mirrored closet doors, dressing and bedside tables. Fabric panel from Designer's Guild forms focus of custom to the ceiling headboard
