DC Healing Arts Gallery Grand Opening, May 9th
PR Web | April 7, 2008 - The non-profit Smith Farm Center for Healing and the Arts announces the grand opening of its new Healing Arts Gallery on Friday, May 9th. The Gallery is a first-of-its-kind exhibition space in the US, innovatively designed to provide each visitor with a unique experience of how the arts can enhance wellbeing. The Gallery structure itself is based on nature, which inherently evokes feelings of tranquility and peace - a first in art gallery design and layout. Smith Farm's goal is to create a Gallery tour that includes an experience of peace and a momentary escape from one's cares, allowing the visitor to be fully present while viewing the art on exhibit. Material Connexion's Cradle to Cradle Library Now Open
Treehugger | April 8, 2008 - The Cradle to Cradle material section was set up in collaboration with MBDC and EPEA last year. These first C2C material libraries opened in January this year in New York City, Milan, Cologne and Bangkok, and can also be consulted online, once you register. Any newly certified materials will automatically be added to the library, due to the high standard of environmental responsibility MBDC applies in their certification system, explains Material Connexion. Survey: Most design professionals link sustainability and concrete

Preservation is Sustainability
Treehugger | April 7, 2008 - Speaking at Bernard Maybeck's historic First Church of Christ, Scientist in Berkeley, the President of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Richard Moe, made an historic speech about how saving old buildings is not about the past, but the future. He calculates that even if 40% of the materials in a new building are recycled, it would take 65 years for "green, energy-efficient new office building to recover the energy lost in demolishing an existing building. The colors available include 3000K, 4100K, and 6000K white with an outstanding evenness of distribution. The strips are modular with flat mini-plugs eliminating in-field soldering, and special controllers that provide the designer the means to install these mini-light sources in the tightest locations. Botanist Blank Canvas Series
Cool Hunting | April 8, 2008 - Following last year's debut of the Botanist Line, this year Orange 22 will reveal the Botanist "Blank Canvas" Series at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). Eight collaborators were tasked with putting their own design mark on the simple shapes made from single sheets of aluminum. Each will also choose a charity of their choice and Orange 22 will match their profits for donation. (more)
