The homeowner wanted to open up the space and to revitalize the look of the home bringing it in line with their taste; this meant a clean modern design. One of them is a cook so the layout of the kitchen and how it functioned when cooking was very important. With careful planning we were able to increase the size of the island. We were also able to incorporate a prep sink and additional storage on the back of the island to make up for upper cabinets that were removed to create the open feeling. We also added pull out cabinet's flanking the cook top for spices and condiments. Everything was designed to make cooking a pleasure. Other elements that were addressed to create the open feeling was the removal of a soffit all the way around the kitchen/breakfast room, the creation of a larger open entry between the kitchen and the dining room and the addition of a counter seating between the kitchen and the family room bring the two room together. Additional areas were addressed to bring the overall feel of the home in line with their design expectations with the redesign of two fireplaces, new hardwood flooring throughout, a new powder room and laundry room. In the end we achieved a design for their home they are thrilled with.
