Calling all ASID members: We invite you to participate in Real World Design Week! This national mentoring program offers interior design students unparalleled hands-on and online learning experiences. Now in its seventh year, this rewarding program has created lasting relationships, connecting students with professionals making a difference in the design industry.
Real World Design Week is a national volunteer program that provides students with an opportunity to shadow design professionals in their work environments. No advance “lesson planning” is required — real world experience is what these future designers crave!
Register online for Real World Design Week.
Registration, hosted online, will match practitioners with students based on information in their short user profiles outlining their experience and demographics. Practitioners may host one or more students, alone or with a colleague. The possibilities to get involved are nearly endless! We encourage you to commit to what works best for your schedule — even a half day can make a difference!
If you have any questions about the program, including how you can get involved, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
This program is open exclusively to ASID members. Learn more about ASID membership.
August – November: ASID chapters and their leaders are encouraged to spread the word about Real World Design Week by all means possible! For many students, Real World Design Week is their first experience outside the classroom, and we want it to be an unforgettable experience. For practitioners, the program offers a way to connect with the future of the industry and also to recruit new talent to join their teams.
August 2014: Mentor online registration opens: Aug. 20
September 2014: Student online registration opens: Sept. 15
November 2014: Shadow days are hosted nationwide November 2 – 8
Note: Our mission is to connect students and professionals nationwide simultaneously, but we understand the proposed dates may not work for all. If it is impossible to meet the week of Nov. 2 – 8, mentors/mentees should work together to find another date and time. To report any shadow days that take place outside the week of Nov. 2 – 8, as well as any activities that were not matched using the online registration portal, please submit both student and practitioner names to the local ASID chapter administrator who will submit the information to ASID headquarters.
