About
Susan Aiello is certified to practice interior design by the State of New York and the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) and is a professional member of ASID and former president of its New York Metropolitan Chapter. She helps make it easier to be green by writing a blog on sustainable design (www.idsgreen.com) and being active on the program committee of the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). She has demonstrated her expertise in sustainable design by becoming one of the few interior designers in New York State to have passed USGBC's LEED for Commercial Interiors test and become a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP). Ms. Aiello has helped to promote interior design as a profession by writing for national publications, appearing on television and lecturing at museums, professional associations and schools. She has been a featured speaker on the Queen Elizabeth 2 lecturing on “The English Style – Architecture, Antiques, and Decoration” and at the Museum of Arts and Design on “Living with Craft.” Books in which she is featured include Brunschwig & Fils Up Close, Spectacular Small Kitchens (for which she contributed a chapter), Take Charge of Your Home Renovation, The Home Office Bible: Real-Life Design Dilemmas & Solutions, SHOWHOUSES: signature designer styles, and Delicious by Design: Architects and Designers in the Kitchen.
Services Offered
Interior Design Solutions specializes in creating healthy, comfortable and beautiful interiors that stand the test of time. We have a particular facility for seamlessly incorporating modern amenities into older buildings while preserving or enhancing their original character. We offer a full range of interior design services including custom furniture design, space planning and renovation. We are known for interiors that perfectly reflect our clients --- the missions and core values of our not-for-profit clients, the brands of our commercial clients and the lifestyles and personalities of our residential clients. The firm is a member of the U.S. Green Building council and combines design excellence with social purpose and ecological responsibility. We design interiors that are healthy for their occupants and the planet. We are able to function seamlessly as part of a multi-disciplinary project team for large and complex projects. All drawings are done in AutoCAD, which greatly facilitates collaboration with architects, engineers and other design professionals, as well as communication with contractors.

Living with Art
Every aspect of this design enhances the client's art collection --- the work of a single artist accumulated over the course of twenty years. The only things that the client kept from his previous apartment were the paintings and a leather-bound set of the complete works of Shakespeare inherited from his father. / Living with Art
Law Office on Park Avenue
We often use large-scale photographs to help enhance a client’s image. Vintage photographs of the surrounding area on Park Avenue help give this law office a sense of stability. When the Army Space Command Center in Colorado Springs requested images that reflected the science of space exploration and the military use of space from Leonardo to the current day, the largest image we used was over twenty feet tall. / Law Office on Park Avenue
Custom Cabinets for a Home Office
When this home office in the corner of our client’s living room is not in use the equipment is completely concealed. The direction in which the printer pulls out maximizes legroom when the client is working. / Custom Cabinets for a Home Office
Retreat for a Lady
A small room (11' x 7') can have a big impact. The wall treatment, carpet, linens and accessories were all inspired by the beautiful botanical watercolors. Neoclassical antiques like the Charles X daybed, Louis XVI chair and Regency nightstand provide a refreshing counterpoint to all of the flowers. / Retreat for a Lady
Classic Kitchen
The original kitchen in this pre-war apartment on Central Park West was enlarged by combining it with an adjacent maid's room. Although the style is classic, the apartment now has all of the modern comforts. For instance, we installed central air conditioning without lowering the ceilings in the principal rooms. / Classic Kitchen
