About
Gretchen grew up the daughter of a Lutheran Minister in New Jersey with two brothers and a sister. Gretchen loved helping her mother prepare for gatherings in their home. She was sewing her own curtains by age 15. And by 17 her first job was in a showroom selling fabrics for the home. Her designer customers told her about FIT, where she graduated with a degree in Interior Design and a BS in Marketing. She was awarded an exclusive internship with a consortium of artists “Design New York” and had the opportunity to attend the Ambiente Trade Show in Frankfurt, Germany. The following year she was the recipient of the Hoechst Celanese’ Marketing Contest Award at FIT bringing her back to Frankfurt for the Heimtextil Trade Show as an honored guest. Her first professional project was to produce existing conditions drawings of The 21 Club, NYC to plan its redesign in 1986. Whether the project is design work or a fundraising effort, Gretchen embarks on each venture with the same enthusiasm.
Services Offered
Gretchen begins each project with a meeting and listens for what the client wants to accomplish. She is interested in both what a client likes as much as what they don't like. Gretchen understands that because there are so many choices available to interior designers it is her responsibility to expose her clients to just the right choices so they can discover what they love. Gretchen is extremely organized and feels blessed that this comes rather naturally to her. In this work there are many details not to be overlooked. She meets the challenge that each project puts forth with great enthusiasm. Gretchen has managed construction projects from the ground up. She knows how to sew therefore working with custom curtain and upholstery workrooms comes very natural to her. Gretchen will never pretend to know something she doesn’t and so in this world that is ever expanding she will always consult the pros on a project to get a detail just right. This extends from lighting details to wall finish details to using unusual materials for furniture, doors or windows. Many contractors, architects, custom workrooms, painters, cabinetmakers and finishers would say they enjoy working with Gretchen for this reason. She has amassed a wonderful network of professionals. Gretchen is interested in learning about and using the most up to date computer technology for managing projects and generating drawings for her designs. She is quick not to take credit for all of it, but instead for being a part of a team. Gretchen is grateful for every project because she sees each one as an opportunity to dream.

Fee Structures
Since each client's needs are unique, a contract is generated once the client and Gretchen understand what the goal is. Detailed tasks to achieve the goal are noted in the contract. Those tasks are listed with time estimations for each. For instance, it may take 10 hours to generate existing condition drawings therefore costing $1,250.00. Gretchen works to cover all the aspects of the project within the contract and make sure she and the client both understand the costs generated so there are no surprises. Surprise birthday parties are nice, surprise costs are not. A Flat Rate for each project is determined based on the time estimations. Gretchen is very enthusiastic and absolutely loves doing this work and is grateful for every project, big or small. Her initial consultation fee is $225.00 and usually runs anywhere from 2 to 3 hours long.
