About
Marilyn is a graduate of Harrington Institute of Interior Design in Chicago and also expands her design knowledge via frequent design study tours throughout Europe and Asia. Marilyn applies a keen understanding and appreciation of historic, period and cultural design to creative concepts that have been featured in many of the most widely recognized decorating magazines. In addition, her designs have been selected for 18 designer showcase houses. Marilyn Akins' work has been recognized, awarded and featured by many prestigious publications and associations both local and national. Awards include: 1993 Traditional Home Design Award; ASID Design Excellence Award; 2010 1st place in large bathroom category: Chicago Kitchen & Bath Association. Akins is a leader of excellence in luxury design with an unparalleled level of service and dedication to the clients she serves. Marilyn says "Our clients’ positive experience through the design process is as important as the design itself". Strong communication between designer and client is key. Her work includes an incredible sensitivity to color, texture and fine craftsmanship. Marilyn Akins Interiors provides it's clients with a wide range of interior design services including but not limited to space planning, new construction, renovation, color consultation, materials and furniture selection, window treatments and kitchen and bath design. Marilyn believes in finishing every job down to the last detail with the art of accessorizing, whether it be with the clients own art and belongings or searching for new. She believes that no job is complete without this last step. With her many years in business, Marilyn has acquired an extensive list of highly skilled craftsmen, artisans, laborers, workrooms, furniture and accessory resources.

Fee Structures
Every project begins with an interview, where the scope and nature of the project is discussed. During the interview, we will explain our fee structures and mutually determine the best option for both parties. We offer several options in order to be able to custom fit the appropriate contract to the client’s needs. A few options would be: An hourly design fee with discounts on product purchases A flat fee based on the scope of project plus discounted purchases Straight hourly fee for consultation only
