Life Membership

This honor recognizes and rewards individual ASID members for their special contributions to the Society. This award is limited to past ASID Society-level Chairs and other professional members who meet the eligibility criteria. Lifetime Awards should not be confused with retired or inactive status, and are not tied to financial hardship considerations. New Lifetime members must pay dues for the year in which they are approved. However, after the year has ended, the Lifetime Award recipient is exempt from all annual dues payments. Lifetime Award recipients retain all rights and privileges of regular professional membership.

  • The Lifetime Award nomination period is open until March 24, 2015. Nominations submitted after that time will not be considered.
  • Winners will be notified in June 2015.
  • The recipients will be publicly announced in a press release and recognized at an event by their local chapter.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility for the Lifetime Award may be obtained in two ways:

1. A recommendation by the ASID Board of Directors for past Society Chairs who have reached the age of 60. The Lifetime Award may be conferred upon a past Society Chair who:

  • has made continual and important contributions to the chapter or to the Society;
  • has been a professional member for a minimum of 25 years.

1. A nomination of a professional member that is initiated by their current chapter board of directors. Please note that this nomination is confidential and that the nominee may not fill out their own forms. A Lifetime Award may be conferred upon a professional member who:

JUDGING

The ASID National Examiners Committee will review nominations following the submission deadline. Applications received after the deadline are not eligible for review.

The ASID National Examiners Committee will review and judge the submittals based on the eligibility requirements. Outstanding and exemplary service will be the benchmark. The committee will make every effort to maintain high standards for award recipients and ensure consistency in judging. Upon approval by the ASID National Examiners Committee the award recipients will be reported to the ASID Board of Directors. The nominator will then be notified.

The award shall be presented to the Lifetime Award honoree by either the chapter president or by an ASID officer during a suitable chapter meeting. The award shall be presented before the end of the same calendar year.

APPROVAL/REVIEW PROCESS

Lifetime Award recommendations will be reviewed once a year. All applications are reviewed by the ASID National Examiners Committee, which will send names of approved nominees to the ASID Board of Directors for final approval as a consent agenda item. The ASID Board of Directors is the only body that may elect a member to a Lifetime Award. Lifetime Awards bestowed in any given year shall not exceed one-tenth of one percent of the total number of professional members of the Society at the beginning of the effective calendar year.

Nominees will not be considered if their nomination packages are missing any of the required documents, if insufficient information has been supplied, or if nominees do not meet all of the criteria. If there is reason to decline the recommendation for life membership, the recommendation, with a letter outlining reasons for such a decision, will be returned to the sponsors of the nomination.

Once the ASID Board of Directors has granted a Lifetime Award, the candidate will be notified directly. Lifetime Award certificates will be ordered by ASID headquarters and will be forwarded to the chapter president. In the event that a Lifetime Award is not granted, the president of the nominee’s chapter will be notified.
