Introduction to Sustainable Design Resources

Course Description

Introduction to Sustainable Design Resources provides an overview of the effects that buildings have on the environment and human health, and a survey of steps that interior designers can take to specify materials that are healthier and better for the environment.  The course will present information on the impacts building has on climate change, water consumption, resource depletion and ecosystem degradation, before focusing specifically on the link between interior materials and furnishings on indoor air quality and occupant well-being. The course will go on to provide 12 common sense “rules” for selecting healthier building materials.  A case study will be presented of a building recently completed using the Living Building Challenge, a rigorous system of sustainable design prerequisites, including a “red list” of toxic materials to be avoided. Finally, a review of independent and reliable resources will be provided to assist ASID members with their future projects.

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from sustainability rock stars Bill Walsh (Healthy Building Network), Nadav Malin, LEED AP (BuildingGreen), and Max Richter, AIBC, MRAIC, LEED AP BD+C (Perkins+Will) at this kick-off event.

This is the first webinar in a three part series.
