Student Lounge Remodel
Bruin Grounds is the lounge and coffee shop located in the basement of our Student Union Building at Oregon's George Fox Univesrity. For my senior project, I remodeled the entire space and prepared the new plans from initial concept to finish. The lounge was in need of a modern update to enhance a playful atmosphere; I also recognized the need for a source of pride and clarity that we are George Fox Bruins and aimed to represent who we are into the design. I chose to work with our school colors and added many elements that portray energy and movement; for example, the jagged white stripe on the blue wall mimics bruin claws or gnarled teeth, sound waves you might hear at a game, or a rapidly beating heart. This was a space designed for the students by the students, and I aimed to emphasize our own spirit into the space in hopes that this source of pride will carry into the future. So far I am delighted to see the increase in usage and popularity since our grand re-opening in January.
