PRO Bono: Make It Right
Transforming Communities Through Design

Founded by Brad Pitt, Make It Right builds sustainable, well-designed homes, buildings and communities for people in need. The organization began building homes in the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans, the neighborhood hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina. Today Make It Right is working nationwide to build sustainable homes and communities. In this session, Jordan Pollard, Make It Right's manager of Research, Design and Development, and Construction Manager Cesar Rodriguez will walk participants through the process of working with designs from architects such as Frank Gehry and Shigeru Ban to create affordable, LEED Platinum homes. Pollard and Rodriguez will discuss value engineering, materiality, innovative financing for development, and the impact of design on low-income homeowners and communities.

PROduct: Biomimicry
Align Design, Business and Nature with Biomimicry

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear two Biomimicry NYC board members share their experiences. Mark Dorfman will provide an overview of biomimicry, describe the methodology he uses to find nature-inspired solutions to real-life challenges, and look at where the field is heading. Janus Welton will discuss natural designs that inspire innovation, share biomimicry products and case studies, and challenge you with a new design paradigm based on nature’s forms, processes and systems.
