The Rancho Santa Fe California Tuscan renovation project began with the creation of space through re-designing the kitchen floor plan and raising the ceiling to give the illusion of more space within the kitchen and great room. The prior kitchen was lacking in function, storage and limited on appliances to meet the needs of daily basic cooking for this family.
Once the floor plan had been redeveloped, kitchen designer Bonnie, restyled the kitchen cabinetry with a customised paint and glazed finish, which illuminated the room. The kitchen was given a larger island, which made it more effective as a workspace but also allowed it to become the focal point of the room. For this avid cook we added a built in microwave drawer at the island and additional drawers for storage. The column detail at the ends of the kitchen island hide spice racks that pull out making her kitchen easy to prep meals in.
The area was maximized by including a new eating space, a desk to manage daily task and a relaxing TV area this involved removing a window, door and relocating the fireplace to the middle point at the back wall to give the area a multiple functions.
To bring in the outdoors in the Architect, Sean Canning, AIA added an outdoor trellis and built in BBQ giving the backyard definition and place to relax in the shade.
