French Inspired Country Home
These homeowners recently moved from Dallas, Texas to the Newtown Square area and they brought some of their “big-sky” approach to the Main Line with their zest for hospitality. They enlisted Meadowbank Designs to take a lackluster spec house and transform it into a home reflecting their love of color and love of family gatherings. The classic black and white foyer sets the tone for welcoming visitors into a home that embraces the dramatic, while being a neutral backdrop for the other rooms to tie into. Being Francophiles, travelers and enthusiastic art collectors, the clients had the atypical art-collector’s request in wanting their art to mix up with the varying colors and surfaces the designers created, rather than standing out on their own in a gallery setting. Their love of France and travel was referenced in subtle and not-so-subtle ways throughout the house in places like their living room salon, their dining room’s Versailles- inspired wall treatments, their child’s faux bois bedroom, a guest room inspired by a favorite hotel in France, and their New York City home away from home; the Carlysle hotel, with a bar inspired by Bemelman’s bar in that same hotel. The house welcomes you in and one feels at home as soon as you enter.
