Washington, D.C. - Each year, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) awards the title of Fellow and Honorary Fellow to individuals who demonstrate outstanding service and contributions to the Society, the profession, and the interior design industry. Fellowship is the highest distinction a member can receive from ASID, and is bestowed on less than one percent of ASID membership, while Honorary Fellowship recognizes those who are not interior designers but have made outstanding contributions to the profession through their careers and their commitment to ASID and to the interior design industry.
“This year’s Fellows and Honorary Fellows have played a key role in shaping the future of the interior design profession,” said Suzan Globus, FASID, LEED AP ID +C, Chair, ASID College of Fellows. “They have not only created interiors that delight, inspire, motivate, support, and awe us, they have provided leadership and ingenuity to the interior design industry, thus improving the human experience. It is our privilege to honor them.”
The 2017 Class of Fellows will be honored at Celebration – The ASID Awards Gala, on July 15, 2017, in San Diego.
Duval Acker, ASID
President

Duval Acker has served as president of the ASID Carolinas Chapter and has held numerous additional positions including Chapter Support Team liaison and Member at Large for the ASID National Board of Directors. She has also served on the ASID CEU Review Committee and National Ethics Committee. Acker has devoted herself to advocacy for the interior design profession. She initiated a successful legislative effort in South Carolina in 2005 and chaired the National Legislative Codes and Advisory Council at a time when the Society’s work in the codes arena was refocused and expanded. An active volunteer in her local community, Acker is a master certified kitchen and bath designer, a licensed contractor, and holds a real estate license. In 2016, Acker was recognized with an ASID Medalist Award.
Sybil Barrido, ASID

Sybil Jane Barrido has been an active member of the ASID Los Angeles Chapter for more than 20 years. Among her contributions to ASID, Barrido has served as president of the Los Angeles Chapter and as a member of the ASID National Board of Directors. She is the co-founder and executive director of The Center for Interior Design Executive Resources and has been the in-house designer at the Hotel Bel-Air for 11 years. Barrido is dedicated to strengthening the next generation of designers through education, including via an online course in Design Thinking for first-year engineering students at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Dehradun, India. She is a certified interior designer in California and a licensed interior designer in Florida, but her work extends beyond those borders to Saudi Arabia, Manila, Philippines, and Brunei, where she worked for the royal family. Her honors include an ASID Medalist Award in 2015.
John Campbell, ASID

John Campbell has been a practicing interior designer for more than 40 years. Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated and involved member of ASID and its predecessor, the American Institute of Interior Designers (AID). He served as president of the Louisiana District Chapter in 1978-1979 and chaired numerous committees in the years following, including the By-Laws Committee and Foundation for Interior Design Education (FIDER) Committee. His career has led him to leadership positions with the ASID Florida North and Intermountain Chapters, and with ASID National. He has lectured on design at Louisiana State University, the University of Idaho, and Washington State University. In the 1980s, Campbell was active in the lobbying effort that led Louisiana to pass licensure legislation, work that led to his issuance of license #008. His work in the fields of interior design and historic preservation have been recognized at the local and national level.
Grant Gribble, ASID

Grant Gribble’s service to the profession of interior design and to ASID began when he was still in school and served as the Student Representative to the Board of the Florida North Chapter. Gribble went on to become president in 1996. His service to the field of interior design has involved work at the national level, as chair of the Foundation for Interior Design Education (FIDER, now known as CIDA) fundraiser at the 1993 ASID National Conference, and as an ASID National spokesperson. Gribble has also been active in promoting interior design legislation through Florida’s State Coalition, IDAF, and via personal outreach to other chapters seeking positive legislative change. He has participated in more than 20 designer showcase homes and has given back through his work as an educator, as chair of Florida State University’s Advisory Board, and through pro bono work for charitable programs like Florida’s Ronald McDonald Houses.
Kerrie Kelly, ASID, NKBA, CAPS

Kerrie Kelly’s contribution to the field of interior design is witnessed through her body of work and the many ways she has utilized her expertise to give back. She has served ASID at both the local and national levels, including as president of the CA Central Nevada Chapter. Her service has extended to the greater community via disaster and humanitarian relief initiatives to provide homes to victims of Hurricane Katrina and to student success programs. She has shared her knowledge and passion for design both as an instructor and as director of Interior Design for The Art Institute, and is a recipient of the Nancy Vincent McClelland Merit Award. Kelly is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist and has chaired the ASID Aging in Place Council. She has written books on design and created product lines for a variety of companies including rug, furniture, and fabric designs.
Alexandria Lanuk, ASID

Alexandria Lanuk has been recognized for innovative space planning, synthesis of elements and unique design solutions by her peers, consumers, newspapers, shelf and trade magazines. Her practice encompasses a wide spectrum from Corporate Headquarters to Residences for over 35 years. She has shared her business and design expertise as an instructor at Norwalk Community College, the University of Bridgeport, and the University of New Haven, and with multiple boards and associations, including the Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ), the Connecticut Building Officials Association, and St. Mary’s Holy Assumption Orthodox Church. She is a past president of the ASID Connecticut Chapter and has held numerous positions with the Connecticut Coalition of Interior Designers. Lanuk was recognized in Connecticut for her 20-plus years of service on the legislative front of interior design where her contributions recently succeeded in positively amending the state’s Interior Design Statute.
Tim Schelfe, ASID, CAPS

Tim Schelfe has been dedicated to giving back to the field of design since his early days in the ASID Carolinas Chapter. He has served as president of the Carolinas Chapter, on the ASID National Board of Directors, and on the Board of the High Point Market Authority, and is currently the Chair-Elect of the ASID National Board of Directors. His work and service to the design profession have earned him awards from the ASID Carolinas Chapter, the High Point Market Authority, and Best Practices Network, to name a few, dating back to his being named an ASID Student Design Competition Award Winner in 1987. Schelfe has been at the helm of multiple firms throughout his career, has served on the advisory board for Interiors & Sources magazine, and has seen his projects featured in a variety books and publications.
Angelo Donghia (awarded posthumously)
Angelo Donghia was an influential interior designer and businessman known for a fine aesthetic sensibility, a discerning eye for quality, and a concern for comfort. His style, characterized by simplicity of line, purity of materials, and sensual textures, created a total environment, not just a room. In 1972, Donghia Associates was born and offered residential, contract, and hospitality interior design services. Throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, Donghia’s client list grew to include major corporations, cultural institutions, and a number of high-profile residential clients, including Ralph Lauren and Barbara Walters. His projects included the Omni International Hotels in Miami and Atlanta, and the Opera Club at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. At the time of his passing in 1985, the New York based Donghia Companies, now Donghia, Inc., included five branches: Donghia Associates, Donghia Furniture, Donghia Textiles, Donghia Showrooms, and Donghia Licensing. His vision lives on through the Angelo Donghia Foundation, which provides scholarships to promising interior design students in the United States.

Randy W. Fiser leads ASID as CEO, overseeing the strategic planning, financial management, and national operations for the Society’s more than 25,000 members who work across all sectors of residential and commercial interior design. He leads the network of 47 ASID chapters throughout the United States and Canada to advance the profession and to communicate the impact of interior design to enhance the human experience and to transform lives. Dedicated to advancing community and economic development, Fiser brings to his role a unique point of view about the capacity of design to make a positive impact on human health and wellness, resiliency, well-being, sustainability, and productivity. He is a globally recognized speaker in the interior design industry, and has changed the conversation around design to include an exploration of the many ways design can impact lives. Fiser managed the design of the new ASID national headquarters that has achieved LEED platinum certification and expects to receive WELL Platinum certification in the near future. He has facilitated a long-term vision to make ASID the voice of the interior designer industry in the U.S. and beyond.

Holly Mattson

Holly Mattson has been the Council for Interior Design Accreditation’s (CIDA) executive director since 2006 and has been with the organization for 24 years. She is a champion of CIDA’s role in bridging interior design practice and higher education through outreach and engagement in developing future-oriented accreditation standards. Under her stewardship, CIDA’s accreditation standards have been at the forefront of rapid changes impacting interior design while ensuring that interior design programs have many opportunities for innovation. Her leadership has been instrumental to CIDA’s long-term creation and delivery of user-friendly, cost-effective support systems for interior design programs working to achieve accreditation.

Susan S. Szenasy began her career with Interiors magazine, rising from an editorial assistant to senior editor, and became chief editor of Residential Interiors, the short-lived offspring of Interiors. Since 1986, she has served as publisher and editor-in-chief of METROPOLIS, the award-winning New York City-based magazine of architecture and design at all scales. She is a pioneer in connecting environmental stewardship with design, and a tireless advocate for human centered design. A book of her writings and talks, “Szenasy, Design Advocate,” was published in 2015.
