Interior design is currently undergoing tremendous change due to developments both within and outside the industry. New technologies, increased requirements for design decisions to be supported with quantitative data and research, the growing complexity of projects, higher expectations for design to perform on multiple levels and deliver on outcomes, and the emphasis on the impact of design on the environment, occupant behavior and well-being are challenging designers in new ways and expanding the scope of practice.
To learn more about how these changes are affecting designers, we interviewed industry thought leaders from across the spectrum of practice and conducted a series of focus groups with veteran designers representing a wide range of backgrounds and experience. In this brief, we examine how these changes are impacting the design process and how designers work with other built environment professionals and specialists.
