Evaluation Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated on their concept, content, and context and will be evaluated on a 1 to 10 scale (1 being the lowest score and 10 being the highest).
Concept: How does it reflect the student’s thought process and design philosophy?
10 points | 33% of total score
- Quality of the written statement and project descriptions.
- Demonstrates originality, ingenuity, and creativity in problem solving.
- Uses innovation and creativity in space planning, three-dimensional experience, material application, and furniture solutions.
- Incorporates applicable universal design principles, sustainable practices, and/or health and wellness attributes.
Content: How does it demonstrate the student’s skills and abilities?
10 points | 34% of total score
- Includes multiple types of projects with quality in execution.
- Shows technical proficiency (digital and/or physical representation).
- Communicates effectively (easy to read, attention to detail, quality of composition).
- Shows professional representation (method of presentation, free of spelling and grammatical errors).
- Demonstrates ability to problem solve (functional needs, project parameters, functional space solutions).
- Exhibits the positive impacts of design on the human experience.
Context: How does it represent who the student is and what they have accomplished?
10 points | 33% of total score
- Incorporates character and structure in submission.
- Includes background of the applicant and relevant biographical information.
- Includes special accomplishments, interests, or experiences (volunteer leadership, professional affiliations, projects, awards, citations, grants).
