ASID is pleased to once again be a part of NeoCon, the largest design exposition for commercial interiors. We hope you’ll join us for the special activities we have planned for you, starting with the annual NeoCon luncheon sponsored by the ASID Illinois Chapter. Tuesday morning brings the ASID keynote address, designed to inspire you with research-based ideas about creativity and intelligence that have implications for design in the workplace, the classroom, and beyond. A tour of CannonDesign’s fascinating workspace will show you how the firm based its innovative design in research. On Wednesday morning, you can mingle with design colleagues, meet rising students, and network with industry partners at the ASID Career Exchange.

Designers have a unique opportunity to inspire creativity in the places we live, work, play, and heal. According to Scott Barry Kaufman, “recent research shows inspiration can be activated, captured, and manipulated, and it has a major effect on important life outcomes.” Kaufman, a cognitive psychologist, studies the development of intelligence, creativity, and personality. In his new book, Ungifted: Intelligence Redefined, Kaufman challenges the conventional wisdom surrounding human potential and asks important questions about inspiration, specifically in the classroom and in the workplace. Kaufman’s deeply researched, personal talk shows us how to find and follow our individual paths to greatness.
