Description
Demystifying Room Acoustics (.1 Credit)
CEU-106082
Level: Intermediate
Demystifying Room Acoustics aims to educate designers, architects and facility managers about the need to consider acoustics at the start of a project—providing information that will help them convince their clients.
This session will share insight on the human-impact of designing with acoustics. After several years of studying the science of sound, we have seen a direct link to not just productivity but the mental health and physical welfare of the office-worker in either a hostile (loud and aggressive environment) or a well-balanced one. The objective is to show popular configurations for open-floor plan spaces, conference rooms, and other environments, detailing how acoustics can be balanced with proper placement on the walls, ceiling, and more. We will also offer a better understanding of acoustic reports and introduce a useful measurement tool for calculating the reverberation and simulating improvements.
Goal #1 To provide a clear and improved insight in the necessity and importance of acoustics in a human-centric design, particularly regarding health, well-being and productivity.
Goal #2 To help designers and architects create and plan acoustically balanced spaces in a more accurate and efficient way.
Goal #3 To provide designers and architects a simple working tool which will allow them to calculate reverberation and balance a room.
Goal #4 Gain more confidence and proficiency when designing projects and communicating with clients about the importance of well-balanced acoustical environments.
