Sheryl Tircuit McLean is the award-winning principal designer and founder of Mclean & Tircuit Designs. An interior architect, author and speaker, she is known for her bold, colorful aesthetic with a touch of creole glam.
Born in New Orleans, raised in California and living in Maryland, McLean has worked on a range of projects from contemporary to the new traditional, with an edge. Her designs are influenced by the historic mansions of the French Quarters with its intricate iron laced balconies, to the open floorplans of California bungalows and the more formal Colonial styles of the East Coast.
McLean received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from California State University, Northridge and spent the first part of her career working as an international flight attendant. Traveling the world while studying different cultures and architectural styles, inspired her to pursue post-graduate studies at UCLAs School of Architecture and Urban Planning. Earning a full scholarship, she graduated with a Masters degree, making her the first Black woman to merit a Masters degree in Architecture at UCLA.
McLean freelanced for a few years at a couple of leading architecture firms in California and Washington DC before founding her own firm in 2003. She has completed projects on both coast in Maryland, Washington DC, Northern Virginia, California and Pittsburgh. McLean is an Associate Member of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) and an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
In her book, Design-ology for Woman in Charge and on speaking tours, McLean provides powerful women with the necessary tools needed to select and work with the best designer to meet their needs.
