Individuals who practice or support the field of interior design, architecture or the build environment that meet the qualifications set out in the Policies may apply for membership in one of the below categories. Individuals qualify for membership based on a criteria of education, experience, and examination. ASID requires practitioner members to complete 1.0/10 credit hours of continuing education every two years to maintain their membership.

• Professional Member. To qualify for Professional membership, the applicant must be able to provide proof of successfully passing the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam. Any member of a provincial association in Canada who is a member of IDC and any professional member of CODDI (Puerto Rico) is transferable to ASID upon proof of said membership.
• Allied Member. To qualify for Allied membership, the applicant must be able to provide proof of completing 40 semester hours or 60 quarter hours of interior design education from an accredited institution.
• Associate Member. To qualify for Associate membership, the applicant must be able to provide two or more work experience forms documenting a minimum of six (6) years of full-time interior design practice, and proof of completion of, at minimum, a college-level associate’s degree in any major demonstrated by unofficial transcript.
• Architect Member. To qualify for Architect membership, the applicant must be able to provide proof of successfully passing the Architect Registration Examination (ARE).
