Dear ASID Community,

Every so often, we’re given the chance to pause and reflect on the people and communities that have shaped us. As I embark on my tenure as Chair of ASID’s National Board of Directors, I’m struck by how central ASID has been to my own journey - and by the shared sense of purpose that continues to bring us together. ASID has long been more than a professional resource to me; it has been a place of connection, growth, and understanding over time, and it’s from that perspective that I’m grateful to be writing to you today.

This society is where I’ve found friendship across cities, states, and continents; where my career has been challenged, supported, and shaped; and where I’ve consistently found inspiration, perspective, and guidance - especially during moments when the path forward felt uncertain. ASID has been a place of learning, yes, but also of belonging, and I know I’m far from alone in that experience.

That sense of shared knowledge and collective support feels especially important as we release the 2026 ASID Trends Outlook report. Resources like this have been invaluable to me personally, and to so many designers I know, as we navigate an industry defined by constant change. Uncertainty has always been part of the designer’s reality, but access to insight, research, and thoughtful forecasting helps us move forward with confidence and intention rather than hesitation. This work - developed so thoughtfully by our staff, volunteer committees and partners - truly matters.

As Chair, I’m thrilled to continue the strong spirit of partnership I’ve experienced throughout my time on the Board, particularly alongside Khoi as President & CEO. His warmth, clarity, and deep dedication to ASID - and to the extraordinary staff who support this organization every day - are felt across our membership, and I’m grateful to serve alongside him in support of our shared mission.

Among the many goals I have for my time as Chair, I’m especially excited about initiatives that elevate the skills, confidence, and impact of our members, while also introducing interior design and careers in the built environment to students who may one day join our ranks. Supporting both those who are established in practice and those just discovering this profession is essential to the future we’re building together.

I’ll close with an open invitation: if you see me at a conference, event, or passing through your city, I’d love to grab a coffee and hear your ideas. Your perspectives, questions, and ambitions are what keep this society vibrant, relevant, and forward-looking.

I’m deeply excited for what’s ahead, and grateful to walk this path with you all.

With appreciation and optimism,

Elizabeth Von Lehe, ASID, NCIDQ
